Overview:
Chicago celebrates one of the most important Mexican celebration in the Midwest taking place the weekend of September 11th in the heart of Chicagoland’s neighborhoods. The Mexican Independence festival program is a grand community gala that officially commemorates Mexico's independence from Spanish rule (or ”Dia de la Independencia”).  Unofficially, it celebrates the rich traditions of the Hispanic family.

The festivals offer something for every family member from entertainment and games for kids and adults of all ages to live regional and traditional music, a wellness/health lifestyle area, a dance pavilion and a senior’s tent.  More than 200 vendors offer a wide variety of arts, crafts and merchandise along with authentic cuisine and drink. Top name local, regional and international musical acts perform both days. In addition, popular soap opera stars and TV/radio celebrities make appearances which further build event excitement with the crowds.

On Sunday (September 13th ), La Villita becomes the end destination for the largest parade in Chicago, the 26th Street Parade. This parade brings thousands of people to celebrate the rich culture of Hispanic community.

Media:
The Festivals ’s media campaign is professionally coordinated and includes a heavy schedule on local TV along with a major promotion, as well as schedules on local radio stations, and multiple Hispanic publications.
